Current Assignment:Holy Spirit, Mullica Hill

My road to the diaconate was not a direct route by any means. I always felt close to Jesus as a young boy growing up in the Methodist faith. Walking to Sunday school each week allowed me the opportunity to have many conversations with the Lord. My Protestant background was well steeped in bible study, much more then my Catholic friends. In 1970, I married the love of my life Marilyn and we decided to raise our family Catholic which led me to the decision to convert to Catholicism. The 2nd best decision of my young life.

As time went on, I had the opportunity to learn more about being a Catholic and eventually became more involved in our local parish. I was just an average “Joe” who taught CCD, was a Lector and an Extra Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion. My plate was pretty full as a husband and a Dad. My professional career in education as a teacher, principal and eventually a Superintendent of Schools put a premium on my time.

Upon retirement from public education I had the time to consider how I could serve others more. At first, I thought just being a house husband and a “golf bum” would suffice…but my old friend Jesus kept calling and eventually, his message to use the gifts I had been given in the service of others led me to the diaconate.
