John Werner

Date of Ordination:March 15, 1997
Current Assignment:Retired

My road to ordained ministry was quite a trip. It started when I graduated from college. Following college, I entered the Oblates of St. Francis DeSales. I was in that order for two years. After being married and while raising a family, I became active in my parish of St. Agnes as a lector and a Eucharistic minister. Finally, I became aware of the Permanent Diaconate program in the diocese of Camden. I applied for admission to the diaconate formation program in 1991. I was ordained six years later.

After my ordination, I was assigned to St. Agnes parish were I was active in the Baptismal Prep program, I did the rehearsals for wedding for the priests of the parish. I began to teach in the Diaconate formation program. Here I believe I have found my true calling to help the men who want to become deacons. This is very rewarding and at times challenging. I truly believe this is what God has been calling me to do.

Now, being retired I am still active in the Baptismal Prep program and once again I am teaching in the Diaconate Formation Program. I am a member of the Diocesan Finance Council, the Diocesan Audit Committee, and the Diaconate Personnel Board.
