Men applying to the diaconate program for the Diocese of Camden must meet the following criteria. The applicant: must:
A. Must be a resident of the Diocese of Camden.
B. Must be between the ages of 30 and 55 to apply.
C. Have received all the Sacraments of Initiation and be a Catholic for at least 5 years prior to entering into formation.
D. If married, he has been validly married for at least five years at the time of admission to the formation program, and his marriage is stable. He enjoys the full support of his spouse who will participate actively in the formation program.
E. If single, he understands the commitment to celibacy.
F. Must be presently active within his parish community having been an active member of his parish for at least 3 years.
G. Must have the recommendation of his pastor.
H. Have successfully completed high school and be able to handle college level course work.
I. Enjoy good physical and mental health with no condition which would impede diaconal ministry.
J. Must be financially stable with a history of steady employment.
K. Must be capable of giving the time required for study and service without detriment to his family and employment.
L. Be able to work in a cooperative spirit with his pastor and other staff of his parish.
M. Have a deep and growing spirituality, living relationship with the Lord Jesus through daily prayer; openness to continued human and spiritual growth; Eucharistic devotion; regular celebration of the sacrament of penance; Marian devotion.
