|Date of Ordination:||October 4, 1976|
I entered minor seminary in Catonsville Md. after grammar school. I left after 4 years and entered the business world. When the diocese announced the Permanent Diaconate program, I discussed it with my pastor, Msgr. Michael Coyne who encouraged me to apply. I was at that time very active in my home parish of St. Nicholas in Egg Harbor City especially during the transition from Latin to English liturgy.
I was accepted into the first class of deacons. Classes were twice weekly at the retreat house in Blackwood. We were ordained after two years but continued classes for two more years. I was assigned to my home parish and to the Atlantic City Hospital Mainland where I spent 15 years assisting the priest chaplain several hours two nights a week. In 1979 I was assigned to St. Elizabeth Seton parish in Absecon. There I was active in RCIA , Baptisms, baptism workshops, preaching and home visitations.
For several years I was Coordinator of Religious Education at St. Bernadette parish in Northfield. That became my daytime job even though I was still at Absecon.
Asked by a seminary classmate to preach parish missions in West Virginia I spent vacations 4 or 5 years doing that and in South Carolina.
